FLU
VACCINE INFORMATION
Updated
11/3/2011
Once again, there is only one type of flu vaccine this year! This
year's
seasonal flu vaccine contains the H1N1 strain along with two
other flu strains, and therefore there is only one vaccine.
Flu vaccine is now available in our office. If your child has an appointment for
well child care at our office before the end of November, you can plan
to receive the vaccine at that time and do not need to make an
appointment for a vaccine clinic.
We are currently scheduling appointments for flu vaccine clinics on the
following days:
- Friday, November 4, 9:00 - 11:00 AM
- Monday, November 7, 9:30 - 11:30 AM & 1:30 - 4:30 PM
- Friday, November 11, 9:30 - 11:30 AM & 1:30 - 4:00 PM - VETERAN'S DAY/NO SCHOOL!
- Monday, November 14, 1:30 - 5:30 PM
- Thursday, November 17, 2:00 - 6:00 PM
- Friday, November 25, 10:00 - 11:30 AM & 1:00 -2:30 PM - NO SCHOOL!
- Monday, December 5, 1:30 - 5:30 PM
- Monday, December 12, 1:30 - 5:30 PM
We will be adding many more clinics in the coming weeks.
If
you would like to
make an appointment for one of our flu vaccine clinics, please call our
office between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Flu vaccination is
recommended for all persons over 6 months of age.
We
have both the inactivated "flu
shot" and the live intranasal flu vaccine available in the office
during well visits and flu clinics. The intranasal vaccine is not
approved for children under 2, children with a history of asthma and
children with certain other medical conditions. See the links below for
more information on both
types of flu vaccine. Please be sure to specify if you are booking an
appoinment for the nasal vaccine when you call the office!
We
will not
be able to offer the flu vaccine on weekends this year.
Children
under 9 years old
receiving the flu vaccine for the first time will need two doses of the
vaccine one month apart.
Please
be aware that our nursing
staff will administer the vaccine and a physician will not
be available to see your child during the flu clinics. See the links
below for more information on the vaccines that should answer most
questions about them. Please note that if your child is allergic to
eggs, you should talk with your pediatrician before scheduling the
vaccine. If you would like to discuss the vaccine further with your
doctor, or if your child is sick on the day the vaccine is scheduled,
please call to speak with the doctor during our regular Call
Hour 8:30 to 9:00 AM daily.
