Hospital Care
Our hospital affiliation is with
the Framingham Union Campus
of MetroWest
Medical Center
. Effective January 25, 2010, all children
hospitalized on the inpatient unit at Framingham Union Hospital and all
newborns born at Framingham Union will be
under the care of the pediatric hospitalists participating in a new
joint program between MetroWest and The Floating
Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center
.
Pediatric hospitalists are physicians with special training
and experience taking care of hospitalized children and their medical
problems. They also have a special interest in working with
us to make sure that the medical care that your child receives in the
hospital is part of the overall care that we provide in the office
before and after the hospital stay. We are very excited to
have this enhanced capability to provide excellent hospital medicine
from attending level pediatricians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week right
here in our community.
Sometimes newborn babies develop
problems that require more
intensive or more specialized care. The Framingham Union
Campus of MetroWest Medical Center has a Level
II Special Care Nursery equipped to take care of most anticipated and
unexpected
problems that might occur with a newborn infant. A neonatologist from
The Floating directs the Special Care Nursery and is the
physician directly responsible for the care of babies in that
nursery. The nurses are specially trained
to care for sick babies, and the nursery has special equipment to help
them do so.
The
Framingham Union Campus Emergency Room has a special
arrangement
with The Floating Hospital that provides a staff-level pediatrician
from The Floating Hospital trained in pediatric emergency medicine to
staff our
Emergency Room daily from
noon until midnight. For this reason, we encourage you to use the
Framingham ER
whenever possible for emergency care.
